We are seeking a highly skilled analytical scientist with demonstrated experience in the setup and use of chromatography systems for purification of small molecules and synthetic peptides. The chosen individual will provide technical and process support for the purification and characterization of synthetic molecules using reverse phase chromatography (RPC), supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) and automation. Self-motivation, scientific curiosity, attention to details, and strong communication skills are required.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Facilitate the purification of small molecules by mass-directed reverse phase and supercritical fluid chromatography by ensuring that appropriate processes and infrastructure are in place. This includes setup, support, troubleshooting, and root cause error analysis of laboratory equipment.
Collaborate with equipment vendors for new instrument research, purchasing, and set up as well as continued development of capabilities.
Evaluate opportunities and integrate new analytical technologies and software into the laboratory where there is a clear benefit to implementation, such as improving efficiency, productivity, or qualtity, or reducing costs.
Design and implement new laboratory policies, methods and processes.
Using fundamental concepts in analytical chemistry and lean work practices, identify bottlenecks, and systematically evaluate and assess root causes of errors in the laboratory, discriminating between inefficiencies arising from human, software, hardware, firmware or chemical sources.
Collaborate with IT and automation groups to develop and enhance the capabilities of the current infrastructure and investigate future capabilities to adjust to the changing lab demands.
BS/MS in chemistry or related field with 4-8 years’ relevant pharmaceutical industry experience.
Solid background in separation science.
Strong hands-on experience with operation and troubleshooting of analytical instruments, including HPLC, SFC and mass spectrometers, as well as automation equipment.
Strong computer skills, including familiarity with instrument control software; programming experience is a plus.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with others working in diverse areas of expertise.
