We are seeking a hands-on analytical scientist who will provide compound characterization support for the discovery of novel synthetic molecules, including small molecules and synthetic oligomers such as peptides and oligonucleotides. The position will require close collaboration with other disciplines in analytical, chemical, and biological sciences. The chosen individual will provide separation support for the discovery of synthetic drugs using chromatographic methods such as reverse phase chromatography (RPC), supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC), and gas chromatography (GC). Self-motivation, scientific curiosity, attention to details, and strong communication skills are required.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Developing and evaluating analytical methods using the above techniques, including preparation of formal reports.
Developing and implementing chromatographic and spectroscopic methods to quantify and characterize synthetic molecules with respect to structure, purity, and stability.
Coordinating acquisition of physicochemical data for synthetic molecules using a combination of in-lab and outsourcing capabilities, including combustion analysis, Karl Fisher titration, residual solvent analysis, infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy, etc.
Using the above methods to perform detailed characterization of synthetic molecules for preclinical biological studies.
Contributing to advancing and applying separation science capabilities to support the discovery portfolio.
BS/MS in chemistry or related field with 4-8 years’ relevant pharmaceutical industry experience.
Solid background in separation science.
Strong hands-on experience with operation and troubleshooting of analytical instruments.
Experience in chromatographic separation techniques including reverse phase chromatography (RPC), supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC), and gas chromatography (GC).
Familiarity with spectroscopic and physicochemical characterization of synthetic molecules.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with others working in diverse areas of expertise.
Strong computer skills.
