Bristol Myers Squibb Digital Capability Management, R&D Chemistry Architect in Princeton, New Jersey

  • Collaborate with IT Business Partners to define strategic roadmaps, develop solution proposals, contribute to project business cases, and estimate budgets for new IT capabilities supporting Discovery Chemistry.

  • Develop solution architectures for new capabilities in collaboration with IT partners, business stakeholders and technology vendors ensuring solutions satisfy business needs, are appropriately aligned with BMS Enterprise Architecture (EA) and industry standards and are engineered to be reliable, cost effective, scalable and sustainable throughout the expected lifecycle.

  • Lead the technical delivery and/or provide oversight to other technical leads for new capability projects in Discovery and/or other business domains according to business priorities. This includes leadership of technical teams to deliver innovative solutions including architecture, design, development, testing, integration, and deployment.

  • Drive innovation by advising project teams and other stakeholders on the external technology landscape – both within the Pharmaceutical Industry and beyond, evaluating new technologies, supporting POCs/prototyping, and participating in the development of new capabilities and service offerings.

  • Support BMS Enterprise Architecture initiatives as a member of the BMS Architecture Community.

  • Own the end-to-end responsibility for managing Digital Capabilities supporting Discovery Chemistry though their lifecycle ensuring they are reliable, accessible and secure.Define 3 year digital capability roadmaps in line with business roadmaps and EA strategy, focusing on speed, quality and cost.

Position Requirements:

  • BS/BA in Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science or other quantitative related discipline. Masters or other advanced degree is a plus.

  • At least 10 years of progressive information technology experience, with responsibility for solution architecture, team leadership and technical implementation on large scale projects.

  • Must have deep domain knowledge of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and supporting digital capabilities (e.g., Compound Management, Reagent Management, Chemical Structure & Data Management, Cheminformatics tools etc.) as well as a solid working knowledge of pharmaceutical research and development overall.

  • Must have demonstrated success delivering complex application systems, services-based application integration, reporting and analytics, and supporting infrastructure within a life sciences organization with significant regulatory, reliability, performance and security requirements. Agile software development, automated testing, and DevOps experience preferred.

  • Enterprise Architecture (EA) experience is a plus including EA methodologies, frameworks and certifications (e.g., TOGAF, IASA) with demonstrated ability to provide leadership across business, application, data, and technology architecture domains.

  • Experience in leading change related to new business processes and technologies across a large organization is desirable. Experience leading or contributing to standards development and governance within the life sciences or healthcare information technology setting is desirable.

  • Must be a relationship builder and capable of functioning without line authority and working effectively in a highly matrixed organization.

  • Strong communication, planning, organization, negotiation, influencing and collaboration skills are required.
