CORDS Manager, Data Strategy

The Manager, Center for Observational Research & Data Sciences (CORDS), Data Strategy is an individual contributor responsible for supporting BMS’ RWD strategy, globally across R&D. Components of this role include engaging vendors and multiple key customer groups (CORDS, R&D, IT, procurement, legal, and other key stakeholders) in a consultative way to deliver an advanced data ecosystem. This role requires a self-motivated, high-energy individual who can easily function in a performance-driven environment. He / she must be accustomed to working on multiple tasks in parallel as well as constant attention to changing priorities and needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

  • Collaborate within and outside of the CORDS team to assess appropriate data opportunities for research strategies

  • Conduct thorough and careful high-level, strategic, exploration-related programming of traditional and emerging RWD data sources

  • Actively participate actively in BMS’ data quality process during evaluations / pilots

  • Engagement and alignment with various key stakeholders (procurement, legal, IT, and other matrix team members) in data pilots and RWD implementation projects across several initiatives at a time

  • Communicate results of analyses effectively both orally and in writing

  • Develop presentations that clearly articulate a story around data sources fitting in to the broader vision of BMS

  • Balance demands across multiple projects, shifting priorities when required

  • Lead project task execution by ensuring progress, organizing project data and coordinating team meetings

  • Synthesize findings and recommendations - communicate results to internal / external teams

  • Develop robust business cases to support and prioritize new data opportunities

  • Help identify sources proactively that address data strategy needs

  • Collaborate across all CORDS data strategy work streams (data assessments, evaluations, gaps, processes and governance) within and outside of BMS to contribute to a successful data ecosystem

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA / BS Degree; Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline

  • Minimum 3 years working hands-on with real-world pharmaceutical / healthcare data

  • Analyst level experience with data vendors / suppliers

  • Management consulting experience a plus

  • Model building and machine learning a plus

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Understanding of RWD sources across all channels and their appropriate use for research purposes; demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently analyze RWD data

  • Proficiency in SAS and / or SQL, or R (3 years of experience) - knowledge of multiple programming languages like R, Java, python or C a plus

  • Analytic problem solving skills, with a creative and innovative outlook

  • Strong attention to detail, with a quality-focused mindset

  • Experience with data mining in big data environments (AWS)

  • Understanding of databases / environments including traditional and hosted

  • Effective oral and written communication skills that enable concise, efficient communication with key decision makers
